Facebook Messenger launches a new icon “a lo Instagram” in its alpha version

This October is becoming the month for changing icons in applications: Google renewed Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs and Meet icons, Instagram let us change the icon and Facebook Messenger launches a new iconat least in the alpha version of your application.

Unlike most application changes, this is not a feature that is activated piecemeal. By installing the latest version from your APK, you will already find the new icon and welcome screen. The icon is very similar to the old one, but with some kinship to Instagram.

The merger continues, also in icons

Facebook has been working for some time on the merger or at least interoperability between its various messaging applications. The first integration will be between Messenger and Instagram messaging and as a result, Instagram Direct will look like Messenger, and Messenger will look like Instagram.

In-depth comparison of messaging applications on Android

While Instagram is still waiting for all users to activate the integration of their messaging with Messenger and other functions, Messenger seems to be preparing a redesign of its icon similar to Instagramwith a different background colour than the usual classic blue.

This new icon is already visible when you install the latest alpha version of Facebook Messenger (287)so it should reach beta and stable versions of the application in the near future. This, of course, if it has not been a specific error, as happened in his day to Google with the icon of Chrome Canary.

The icon is new, although it’s not the first time it’s been shown on Facebook. We could see it in screenshots showing the possibility of chatting in Messenger from Instagram, a function that is optional, so it could be the icon used when this app merge is activated.
