How to change the ringtone in Android
First of all, it should be noted that WhatsApp, for both iOS and Android, offers the ability to change the app’s notification tones for all received messages or to customize the notification tone for a specific user or group. In the first case, the one that applies changes to all messages, groups or callsThe steps to follow in Android are as follows:

Open the WhatsApp application.

Click on the three-point icon in the upper right-hand corner and a drop-down menu will appear.

Go to ‘Adjustmentsof the application and select Notifications.
Depending on whether you want to change the sound of messages, group notifications or the tone of calls, you should select Notification tone’ in the ‘Messages’, ‘Groups’ or ‘Calls’ section. A new menu will then open with many sounds that you can listen to by playing over them; when you have chosen the one you like best, just select it and click ‘OK’.
But as we said, we also have the option of customizing the sound of the notification of a specific user or group. For this, in the Android version, the following steps must be followed:

How to change the ringtone in iOS

In the case of the iOS version, WhatsApp does not allow you to choose message and group tones separately, but the sound you select is applied generally. It is also not possible to select a ringtone for WhatsApp because the application use the same tone you have assigned to “normal” calls“(option that can be changed from the general phone settings).
WhatsApps for iOS does allow (as does the Android version) is to customize the sound of the a particular user or group. To do this, the following steps must be taken:

Open the WhatsApp application and enter the chat of the person or group you want to change the tone.

Select the option Custom Tone.

Choose the notification tone you want to use and give Save.
From then on, the messages you receive from that user or group will sound different from the rest. In the case of iOS, unlike Android also does not allow you to select a specific ringtone for that user or group, but applies the sound of the so-called “normal” ones to everyone.
